Planet Drum World Anthology This is an introduction to the drum as the oldest instrument in the world, excluding the voice. We familiarize the students with various historical and modern day uses of the drum in several parts of the world. They will also have an opportunity for hands-on participation by playing various percussion instruments. Learn the history, design, techniques, and other related information of the worldwide art of percussion.West African, Afro-Cuban, Caribbean, Brazilian, Middle-Eastern and East Indian traditions are covered. (Video presentations are included.)
World Beat Drum Circle Team Building A hands-on group experience learning to play various traditional world rhythms. Can also include songs of many traditions and movement. This program focuses on community and team building, multicultural diversity training, motor development skills, understanding polyrhythms, self-expression, stress therapy, and self-esteem building. Drum circle facilitator training programs are also available.
Universal Language of Rhythm Tradition & Technique A hands on experience with the drum, an instrument that is part of every culture in the world. Learn how to speak in the universal drum language. Freely express yourself as you share this ancient system of communication. This program is based on an oral tradition from both Africa and the Middle East. Quickly unlock the creative power of any rhythm through the heartbeat.
Healing Power of Rhythm Music Therapy An educational and interactive program utilizing the basic concepts of music therapy. This session explores the therapeutic power of rhythm-based music and how to replace destructive patterns with creativity. This program has proved beneficial for both the physically and mentally challenged. It is applicable to everyone from children to senior citizens. In some cases as a positive substitute for destructive behavior in detention centers and domestic violence cases.* We also offer music therapy trainings and other related intensive workshops such as �Rhythm of the Elements� and �Journey Dance� with accompaniment CDs.
Roots and Wings - Dance This workshop focuses on dance and its relationship to daily life. It allows participants to experience the relationship between musician, music, and dancer. The students receive instruction in traditional African & Middle Eastern Dance. We also encourage their own interpretive expression through creative movement techniques. Time permitting; we will choreograph a short dance. Emphasis can be placed upon traditional techniques, freedom of expression or holistic self-awareness.
Voices of Our Ancestors - Storytelling Theatre and storytelling is the subject of this section. This program describes the origins of storytelling and how it has been used over the years to preserve history. We instruct participants how to cultivate this oral tradition and assist them to act out various stories. Each of the students will have the opportunity to create or act in a story /play.
Man, Myths and Masks Mask Making This workshop is based on an introduction to world mythology and its significance in daily life. We will show, through examples from different traditions, the universal themes of mythology. We will then go over the process of mask-making, and depending on the time and interest, either actually make masks with the students or have them design one to make on their own. The masks they design will bring out different creative sides of themselves relating to these mythological archetypes. Programs can be specifically formatted to accommodate time and budget. All instruments are available to purchase through our sales catalogue. Training programs are available for educators. Internships and private classes are available.
